Evan Gormley Scores Pair of Goals in Mount St. Mary's Loss to Hobart

Emmitsburg, Md. (April 16, 2016)—Mount St. Mary's fell to Hobart, 12-6, in Northeast Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Waldron Family Stadium.  Evan Gormley scored a pair of goals for the Mount in the game.

Hobart (7-5, 3-1 NEC) struck for a pair of goals in the opening five minutes to take the lead.  Frank Brown opened the scoring when he converted a Gavin Llewellyn 1:46 into the game.  Llewellyn's goal with just over 10 minutes left in the first quarter gave the Statesmen a two-goal lead.

The Mount (5-6, 1-2 NEC) got on the scoreboard with 1:47 left in the opening quarter on a Ryan Lamon goal. 

Hobart stretched the lead to 4-1 with goals by Brown and Mason Burr.  The Mount was able to get back into the game by scoring the final two goals of the first half.  Gormley's first goal of the game midway through the quarter cut the Hobart lead to two.  Jack Mangan then scored a man-down goal on a pass from Bennett Zaba to make it 4-3.

The Mount tied the game early in the third quarter on Gormley's second goal of the game when he scored in the slot on a pass from Lamon.  Hobart, however, scored the next six goals of the game to take control.  Max Romm started the scoring streak before Bryan Hancock tallied consecutive scores to make it 7-4.  Chris Aslanian's goal with 2:33 left in the third quarter made it 8-4.

After Hobart opened the fourth quarter with goals by Sean Donnelly and Hancock, the Mount's Spencer Smith netted his sixth goal of the year to stop the Hobart scoring run.  Brown and Ryan Cochran each scored for the Statesmen before the Mount's Mark Hojnoski scored with 42 seconds left in the game to complete the scoring.

Gormley's two goals led the Mount while Lamon had a goal and assist in the win.  Mike Celmer won 11-of-20 face-offs while picking up five ground balls.  Brown led Hobart with three goals and an assist while Hancock added three goals.  Jackson Brown made 13 saves for the Statesmen, including nine in the first half.  The Mount held a 40-31 advantage in shots and a 29-20 edge in ground balls.

The Mount is back in action on Tuesday, April 19, with a 1:00 p.m. game at Bryant.
