MOUNT UPDATE: Mount St. Mary's had its three-game win streak snapped in an 11-9 home loss to Robert Morris last Saturday. The Mount held a 6-5 lead after a wild first quarter that featured 11 goals. The Colonials scored the only three goals of the second quarter to take an 8-6 lead at the half. The Mount answered, tying the game at 8-8 with 12:18 left, but three consecutive RMU goals sealed the win. Justin Gosnell and Mark Hojnoski each had two goals and an assist in the loss while Bubba Johnson added two goals as well. Chris DiPretoro chipped in a goal and two assists. Goalkeeper Matt Vierheller made seven saves in the game.
ABOUT THE PIONEERS: Sacred Heart lost at Robert Morris, 12-7, on March 19 in their last outing. The Pioneers had their game against Bryant last week postponed. Brian Masi scored a pair of goals to lead Sacred Heart in the loss at RMU. Masi leads the team with 23 points (13g, 10a) while Alex Dodge has 19 points (13g, 6a). Sacred Heart has lost five in a row to fall to 2-6 on the season. A.J. Boyd (12.49 GAA, .402 SV Pct.) and Greg Price (11.41 GAA, .488 SV Pct.) have each appeared in five games in goal.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES: The Mount holds a 7-2 lead in the all-time series with Sacred Heart. Mount St. Mary's is 2-1 against the Pioneers on the road. The Mount's 10-2 home victory against Sacred Heart last year snapped a two-game losing streak to the Pioneers.
LAST YEAR'S MEETING: Evan Gormley and Bubba Johnson each scored there goals while Matt Vierheller made 12 saves to lead the Mount to a 10-2 win over Sacred Heart last year in Emmitsburg, Md. The Mount controlled the game from the start, holding a 16-to-2 edge in shots in the first quarter. The Mount led 3-0 at the half, and pushed the lead to 6-0 with 4:31 left in the third quarter before Sacred Heart score its first goal.
MOUNT LEADS NATION IN CAUSED TURNOVERS: Mount St. Mary's leads the nation in caused turnovers with 9.86 per game. It has been a balanced effort as Jack Mangan leads the team with 10 while Kevin Verkler and Brent Tsang each have eight. Notre Dame is second with 9.29 caused turnovers per contest.
