March 17, 2016--The Mount St. Mary's men's and women's track and field teams open the outdoor season at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational today. The meet is hosted by Coastal Carolina and will be held at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadum in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
The meet is named after retired women's track & field/cross country coach Alan Connie, who is a member of the CCU Athletics Hall of Fame. Connie, who won 28 Big South Championships during his 28-year career at Coastal, has been anointed Head Coach Emeritus by the Board of Trustees.
During the indoor season, the Mount women finished in fourth place and the men's team in sixth place at the Northeast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Julian Woods won the 60m hurdles, the women'x 4x400m relay team of Isabel Ross, Helena Leyrer, Kirsten O'Malley and Genamarie McCant won gold medal honors, Moriah Fitzgerald won the pole vault, Natalia Hinton won the long jump, and Chase Boyle was first in the weight throw.
