Box Score Washington, D.C. (March 1, 2016)—Mark Hojnoski scored a career-high five goals to lead Mount St. Mary's to an 11-8 win at Georgetown on Tuesday afternoon. Trailing 8-7 in the fourth quarter, the Mount scored four times in the final five minutes to secure the win.
Freshman Chris DiPretoro scored the equalizer with 4:59 on the clock to tie the game at 8-8. Hojnoski then gave the Mount the lead when he scored his fourth goal of the contest on a feed from Bubba Johnson. Hojnoski and Justin Gosnell then sealed the win with goals in the final minute.
The Mount entered the final quarter with a 6-5 lead, but the Hoyas scored a man-up goal three minutes into the quarter to tie the game. DiPretoro gave the Mount a one-goal advantage, but the Hoyas (0-3) scored a pair of goals to grab a 9-8 lead with 6:25 left in the game.
Hojnoski had five goals and an assist to lead the Mount offense while DiPretoro tallied his first collegiate hat trick in the win. Gosnell added two goals and two assists with Johnson chipping in a pair of helpers for the Mountaineers.
Frankie McCarthy made 13 saves while allowing seven goals in 59:33 of action to earn the win in the cage for the Mountaineers. Mike Celmer won 11-of-23 face-offs while scooping up a team-high five ground balls.
The Mount won the ground ball battle 27-23 with the Hoyas holding a narrow 33-31 advantage in shots. Eight different players scored in the game for Georgetown.
The Mountaineers held a 2-0 advantage after the first quarter on goals by Ryan Lamon and DiPretoro. Georgetown rallied to take a 4-3 lead, but Hojnoski scored with one second left in the first half to tie the game at 4-4.
The Mount is 2-2 against the Hoyas over the past four years, and now holds a 17-16 lead in the all-time series.
Mount St. Mary's is back in action on Saturday, March 5, with the home opener against Furman at 12:00 p.m. at Waldron Family Stadium.
