Box Score Towson, Md. (February 20, 2016)--The Mount St. Mary's men's lacrosse team lost at No. 15 Towson, 9-5, on Saturday afternoon. Mark Hojnoski led the Mountaineers with three goals and an assist in the game.
After Towson had taken a 1-0 advantage, freshman Chris DiPretoro's first collegiate goal evened the score after one quarter of play.
The Tigers (2-0) scored the first four goals of the second quarter to take a 5-1 advantage. Hojnoski countered with a pair of extra-man goals in the final two minutes of the half to make it a 5-3 game. His second goal came with 10 seconds left in the first half.
After Towson's Ian Kirby scored, Hojnoski completed his hat trick, converting a feed from Evan Gormley to make it 6-4 with 5:44 left in the third quarter. Towson's Tyler Young answered just 35 seconds later to push the lead to 7-4 heading into the final quarter.
Ryan Lamon cut the deficit to 7-5 just 1:30 into the fourth quarter when he connected on a pass from Austin Short. Towson's Mike Lynch gave his team some breathing room with a goal with 9:05 left in the game while Ryan Drenner completed the scoring with his third goal of the game with 43 seconds left to make it 9-5.
Mount St. Mary's goalkeeper Matt Vierheller had a strong game against Towson for the second consecutive season. Vierheller made 15 saves for the Mount in the game. Towson held a 42-30 edge in shots, 28-21 margin in ground balls and won 9-of-15 face-offs.
Mount St. Mary's is back in action on Tuesday with a 4:00 p.m. matchup at Richmond.
