Box Score

Emmitsburg, Md. (October 30, 2016) – The Mount St. Mary's University women's soccer team closed out the 2016 season on Sunday afternoon with a 2-1 win over Fairleigh Dickinson at Waldron Family Stadium. Gianna Pomykacz tallied her third goal of the season to help propel the Mountaineers to victory.

Fairleigh Dickinson jumped out to an early lead on Jessi Reinhardt's 12th minute goal. Connie Lewis sent a thru ball to a streaking Reinhardt, who moved in on goal and sent a low shot inside the near post to stake the Knights out to the 1-0 advantage.

Mount St. Mary's evened the game at 1-1 late in the first half on Pomykacz's third goal in her last four games. Off the Mount's fifth corner of the half, Pomykacz collected a loose ball inside the box and fired a low shot past a diving Amanda Fitzgerald to knot the score up.

In the 61st minute, Jenna West worked the ball down the end line and sent a cross inside the six-yard box. Fairleigh Dickinson defender Jackson Bennett made a lunging interception attempt but deflected the ball into the Knights' net, giving the Mount a 2-1 lead.

The Mountaineers held off the Knights after securing the lead thanks to a couple key stops from goalie Maddy Bunnell, and escaped with a 2-1 victory for their first NEC win of the season. Bunnell made three saves in the contest to collect her fourth win in net.

The Mount wraps up the 2016 season at 5-12-1 overall and 1-7 in Northeast Conference play.
