Mount St. Mary's Women's Soccer Edged by Delaware State on Late Goal

Dover, Del. (September 27, 2015)--Delaware State scored on a free kick with 38 seconds remaining to edge Mount St. Mary's, 2-1, in women's soccer action on Sunday afternoon.  Freshman Nikki Pinto scored her second goal of the season for the Mountaineers in the loss.

Delaware State (3-8-1) got on the scoreboard in the 25th minute when Elise Pratt intercepted a clear attempt, and then buried a shot from 35 yards out.

The Mountaineers (1-10-0) evened the score when Nikki Pinto converted a rebound off a Jenna West shot in the 57th minute.  The Hornets were able to secure the win in dramatic fashion when Savannah Taylor converted a free kick from just outside the penalty box with 38 seconds left in the game.

Delaware State held a 10-to-9 advantage in shots, but the Mountaineers had five shots on goal compared to just two by the Hornets.  The Mount also had a 3-0 edge in corner kicks in the contest.

Michele Lammers made four saves for Delaware State in goal while Costello-Mays did not make a save while playing all 90 minutes in the game for the Mount.

The Mount begins Northeast Conference play on Friday, October 2, with a road game at Fairleigh Dickinson.
