Box Score Washington, D.C. (September 18, 2015)--The Mount St. Mary's women's soccer team fell to Howard, 7-1, on Friday night at Greene Stadium. Freshman Lauren Bogardus scored her first career goal for the Mount in the loss.
Howard (4-3-0) struck for a pair of goals in the opening five minutes to take a 2-0 advantage. Kela Gray opened the scoring just 3:16 into the game, and then assisted on a Whitney White goal just 1:33 later.
A flurry of goals early in the second half secured the win for the Bison. Rasheedah Ansari and Gray scored back-to-back goals in a span of 1:12 early in the second half to make the score 4-0. The Mount (1-8-0) countered when Bogardus notched her first goal of the year on an assist from Kirsten O'Malley in the 55th minute that cut the deficit to 4-1.
Howard, however, answered with goals in the 56th and 58th minute to stretch the lead to 6-1. Dytria Ruddy's second goal of the game in the 75th minute rounded out the scoring.
The Mountaineers outshot Howard, 17-16, in the game while holding a 9-to-3 edge in corner kicks. Howard goalkeeper Mackenzie Diotte made saves in the win. For the Mount, Quinn Costello-Mays played the first half, making one save while allowing two goals. Rachel Bourne played the second half, making two saves.
The Mount is back in action on Sunday, September 20 at VCU.
