FINAL RESULTS
Emmitsburg, Md. (May 3, 2015)—The Mount St. Mary's men's and women's outdoor track and field teams each finished in third place at the Northeast Conference Championships held at Morgan Track on campus.
Individually, Kelly Yanucil won the javelin with a new school and conference record while Sara Gardner took home first place in the 100m hurdles. Gardner was named the women's Rookie of the Meet while D.J. Workcuff earned Co-Rookie of the Meet honors on the men's side.
The Mount men finished in third place with 99 points, trailing winner Central Connecticut (170.5) and LIU Brooklyn (161). Fairleigh Dickinson was fourth (94), followed by Sacred Heart (87), Wagner (85.5), Saint Francis Univ. (80), Bryant (29) and St. Francis Brooklyn (9).
On the women's side, Mount St. Mary's accumulated 107.5 points to finish in third place behind first-place Sacred Heart (195.5) and LIU Brooklyn (140). Robert Morris finished in fourth place with 75 points, followed by Saint Francis Univ. (65), Fairleigh Dickinson (58), Wagner (49), Central Connecticut (49), Bryant (48) and St. Francis Brooklyn (32).
Yanucil had a toss of 50.53m (165' 9.75") to break the conference record and set a new standard at the Mount. Teammate Heather Juhring finished in second place with a throw of 46.64m (153' 0.5") to give the Mount a 1-2 finish in the event. Samantha Manson also scored for the Mount in the javelin, finishing in eighth place (34.78m, 114' 1.5").
Gardner won the 100m hurdles and finishing third in the high jump to earn Rookie of the Meet honors. She set a school record with an ECAC qualifying time of 13.93 to win the 100m hurdles. Gardner's jump of 1.64m (5' 4.5") in the high jump was good for third place.
Genamarie McCant finished in second place in the 400m dash (55.95) while placing seventh in the 200m (25.39). Helena Leyrer finished third in the 400m hurdles (1:03.94) and fifth in the 100m hurdles (14.67) while Jessica Whitmore finished third in the 100m dash with an ECAC qualifying time of 11.97 seconds.
Desi Scott earned a third-place mark in the 800m run (2:15.73) while Ali Donahue finished fifth in the hammer throw (49.65m, 162' 11") and Corie Scharpf tied for fifth in the high jump (1.56m, 5' 1.75").
For the men, the Mount had three runners score in the 800m run to lead the way. Kody Wilson finished second with a time of 1:52.58, Christopher Eltringham third at 1:52.58, and Sean Fritz sixth at 1:58.16.
Josh Poole had a strong meet for the Mount as well, finishing second in the 400m dash (48.15) and fifth in the 200m dash (21.95).
Workcuff finished fourth in the 200m dash (21.86) and seventh in the 100m dash (10.95) on Sunday.
Joe Barbato posted a fourth-place mark in the javelin (52.94m, 173' 8.5") while Tommy Gruschow was fifth in the 1,500m run (4:03.34). Jesse Langton finished seventh in the 1,500m (4:03.86), Chris Evans was sixth in the 3,000m steeplechase (9:53.18) and Brenden Chavis sixth in the hammer throw (46.35m, 152' 1").
Christopher Gabor and Carlos Castello each scored in the pole vault with Gabor finishing sixth (4.05m, 13' 3.5") and Castello seventh (3.75m, 12' 3.5"). Julian Woods finished seventh in the 110m hurdles (15.13) and eighth in the 400m hurdles (57.02).
