Mount Women Fourth, Men's Team Fifth after First Day of Northeast Conference Championships

Emmitsburg, Md. (May 2, 2015)—Mount St. Mary's is in fourth place on the women's side and in fifth place on the men's side after the first day of competition at the 2015 Northeast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by the Mount at Morgan Track this weekend.

The women's team is in fourth place after day one of the meet with 25 points, trailing Sacred Heart (66 points), Robert Morris (42) and Saint Francis University (28).  Fairleigh Dickinson (20), LIU Brooklyn (19), Wagner (13), Bryant (12) and Central Connecticut (9) round out the standings.

The Mount men's team is in fifth place after day one with 27 points, trailing Central Connecticut (48.5 points), Fairleigh Dickinson (41), Saint Francis University (32) and LIU Brooklyn (29).  Wagner is in sixth place with 26.5 points, followed by Sacred Heart (23), Bryant (6) and St. Francis Brooklyn (1).

Moriah Fitzgerald and Elissa Ingram finished in second and third place, respectively, in the pole vault to lead the Mount women.  Fitzgerald had an ECAC qualifying vault of 3.65m (11-11.75) while Ingram was right behind at 3.55m (11-7.75).

Kristen Galligan posted a fourth-place finish in the 10,000m run in the morning with a time of 37:52.36.  Natalia Hinton added a sixth-place finish in the long jump (5.30m, 17-4.75) while Virginia Owusu-Mainoo scored in a pair of events.  Owusu-Mainoo finished seventh in the shot put (11.99m, 39-4) and eighth in the discus (38.87m, 127-6.5).

Jessica Whitmore qualified for the finals in the 100m dash after finishing second in the preliminary round with a time of 12.19 seconds.  Genamarie McCant earned a spot in the 200m finals (5th, 25.24) and the 400m finals (8th, 58.67).  Desi Scott had the top qualifying time in the 800m (2:18.24) while Sara Gardner had the top time in the 100m hurdles at 14.40 seconds, an ECAC qualifying time that is second all-time at the Mount.  Helena Leyrer advanced to the finals in both the 100m hurdles (6th, 14.84) and the 400m hurdles (4th, 1:04.79).

The 4x800m relay team capture first place honors to lead the men's team on the opening day of the meet.  The quartet of Tommy Gruschow, Sean Fritz, Christopher Eltringham and Kody Wilson finished with an IC4A qualifying time of 7:40.46 to earn the Mount 10 points.

Eric Belt finished in fourth place in the shot put with a mark of 14.35m (47-1) while Chase Boyle was fourth in the discus with a toss of 43.44m (142-6.5).  Brenden Chavis also scored in the discus with an eighth-place mark of 40.97m (134-5.25).  The Mount also had two score in the long jump as D.J. Workcuff finished fifth with a leap of 6.70m (21-11.75) while Cooper Kutz was seventh at 6.61m (21-8.25).

Workcuff had a busy day, also earning a spot in both the 100m finals (8th, 11.11) and the 200m finals (6th, 22.10).  Josh Poole advanced to the finals in both the 200m (5th, 22.01) and the 400m (49.15) while Julian Woods moved on to the finals in both the 110m hurdles (6th, 15.08) and the 400m hurdles (4th, 56.23). 

The Mount had a trio of runners advance to the 800m finals.  Wilson had the third-fastest qualifying time (1:58.61), Fritz the fourth (1:58.69) and Eltringham the fifth (1:59.11).   Gruschow advanced in the 1,500m with the second-fastest mark (4:04.22) while Jesse Langton also moved on to the finals in the 1,500m (8th, 4:05.89).
