Mount St. Mary's Men's Lacrosse Topped by Saint Joseph's

Emmitsburg, Md. (April 11, 2015)--Mount St. Mary's University lost to Northeast Conference leader Saint Joseph's, 16-4, in men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Waldron Family Stadium on campus.  Justin Gosnell (Aberdeen, Md.) scored a pair of goals for the Mountaineers in the loss.

Saint Joseph's (8-5, 4-0) took control of the game early when Mike Dougherty scored three consecutive goals in the opening 6:25 to give the Hawks a 3-0 lead.  The Hawks did not let up, eventually opening a 12-0 lead with 4:21 left in the first half.  Gosnell was able to get the Mount on the scoreboard with his first goal of the game with 28 seconds left in the first half to cut the deficit to 12-1.

Mike Rastivo scored 54 seconds into the third quarter for Saint Joseph's before the Mount scored three consecutive goals to cut the deficit to 13-4.  Christian Duram (Quincy, Mass.) pocketed a pass from Evan Gormley (Mentor, Ohio) for the first score.  Gosnell's team-leading 17th goal of the year made it 13-3, and Mike Moynihan (West Islip, N.Y.) scored with 4:21 left in the third quarter to make it 13-4.

Saint Joseph's closed out the scoring with the final three goals of the game for the final score of 16-4.  The Hawks held a 46-24 advantage in shots and a 45-25 edge in ground balls.  Mike Lanham won 16-of-22 face-offs in the game for Saint Joseph's while T.J. Jones made 10 saves while allowing four goals in 53:48 to pick up the victory in goal.

Nick Firman (Fayetteville, N.Y.) led the Mount defense with three caused turnovers and three ground balls.  In goal, Frankie McCarthy (Ridley, Pa.) allowed eight goals while making seven saves in 42:30 in relief of starter Matt Vierheller (Forest Hill, Md.), who allowed eight goals with one save in the opening 17:30 of the game.

Dougherty finished with three goals and an assist to lead Saint Joseph's while Rastivo and Ryan McGee each had two goals and an assist.  Eleven different players scored in the game for the Hawks.

Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Saturday, April 18, when Bryant visits Waldron Family Stadium for a 12:00 p.m. matchup.
