Mount Track Completes First Day at Northeast Conference Indoor Championships

Landover, Md. (February 21, 2015)--The Mount St. Mary's men's and women's indoor track and field teams completed the first day of competition at the Northeast Conference Championships held at the Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex on Saturday.

The women's team is tied for eighth place after four events while the men's team is tied for seventh place after today's four events.

Sacred Heart leads the women's side with 62 points, followed by LIU Brooklyn (23), Saint Francis U (19), Central Connecticut (15), Fairleigh Dickinson (13), Bryant (8), Robert Morris (6), the Mount (5) and Wagner (5).

On the men's side, Saint Francis U leads with 33 points, followed by Sacred Heart (29.5), Fairleigh Dickinson (27), Central Connecticut (24), Wagner (21.5), LIU Brooklyn (11), the Mount (5) and Bryant (5).

Julian Woods finished in sixth place in the long jump (6.61m) with Carlos Castello finishing seventh in the pole vault (4.20m) to score for the Mount men on Saturday.

Kody Wilson had the top qualifying time in the 800m run (1:55.36) with teammate Chris Eltringham (1:59.38) also earning a spot in tomorrow's final.  Woods qualified for the final in the 60m hurdles (8.28) with Todd Sampson also qualifying with a time of 8.64 seconds.

Josh Poole and Jas Chung-Campbell moved on to the finals in the 500m dash while Jesse Langton qualified for the finals in the mile run.

On the women's side, Jessica Whitmore moved on to the finals in the 60m dash (7.79) while Genamarie McCant advanced in the 200m dash (25.71).  Desi Scott earned a spot in the finals of the 500m (1:18.01) while Sara Gardner's personal best time of 8.94 seconds in the 60m hurdles gives her a spot in tomorrow's final.

Natalia Hinton was the Mount's lone point scorer on Saturday with a fourth-place finish in the long jump (5.29m).

The meet concludes tomorrow.
