Mount St. Mary's Women's Soccer Edged by Saint Francis U, 2-1

Emmitsburg, Md. (October 4, 2015)--Mount St. Mary's was edged by Saint Francis U, 2-1, in women's soccer action at the Mount's Waldron Family Stadium on Sunday afternoon.  Emma Blair scored for the Mount, her third goal of the year.

The Mount (1-12-0, 0-2-0 NEC) started the game strong, posting the first four shots of the game.  The Mountaineers finally converted a scoring chance when Blair headed home a shot in the 24th minute.  Freshman Lauren Bogardus sent a header into the middle of the box, where Blair was able to put her shot past SFU goalkeeper Romina Kunze.

The Mountaineers were able to maintain the 1-0 advantage to the half.  The Mount held a 6-to-4 edge in shots and a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks in the opening half.

The Red Flash (2-9-1, 2-0-0 NEC) took advantage of a corner kick to score the equalizing goal in the 69th minute.  After the initial corner, the Mount was unable to clear the ball, which went to Paige Butler, who buried a shot from 15 yards out to tie the game.

It was another corner kick that provided the winning goal as Gabi Morales scored directly off her corner kick in 78th minute.  Morales was able to curl the corner into the upper left portion of the goal to lift Saint Francis to a 2-1 lead.

Saint Francis outshot the Mount, 10-1, in the second half and held a 14-to-7 edge in the game.  Each team took six corner kicks.  Rachel Bourne played the first half of the game in goal for the Mountaineers, allowing no goals while making three saves.  Vicky Cocozza played the second half.  Kunze made three saves for the Red Flash.

The Mount returns to action on Friday, October 9, with a 4:00 p.m. home game with Central Connecticut State.
