MOUNT UPDATE:  Mount St. Mary's opens the 2014 season at No. 6 Maryland.  It is the second consecutive season that the Mount has played the Terrapins in the season opener.  It will be a new look for the Mountaineers this season on offense.  The Mountaineers have just three players who scored a goal last year, led by Clayton Wainer's four.  In total, the Mount lost 95.5 percent of its scoring from a season ago.

ABOUT THE TERRAPINS:  Maryland returns seven starters from last year's team that earned the school's 11th straight bid to the NCAA Tournament.  Jay Carlson (20g, 2a) returns on attach and Mike Chanenchuk (23g, 4a) in the midfield.  Goalkeeper Niko Amato returns as the starter for the fourth consecutive year.

THE ALL-TIME SERIES:  The Mount is 0-10 all-time against Maryland in the all-time series that began in 1988.  Last season, the Mount fell to Maryland, 23-6, in the season opener at Byrd Stadium.  Mount St. Mary's is 0-7 all-time on the road against the Terrapins, with all seven matchups being decided by 10 or more goals.

THE SCHEDULE:  The Mount once again will face a challenging non-conference schedule.  The Mount will play three teams ranked in the top 20 in the USILA Preseason Poll (#6 Maryland, #7 Virginia, #11 Johns Hopkins) and will face two others receiving votes (Towson, Drexel).

THE MOUNT vs. RANKED OPPONENTS:  Mount St. Mary's is 5-49 all-time against ranked opponents since moving to NCAA Division I in 1988-89.  However, the Mountaineers are 5-10 against ranked opponents since 2010.  Last year, the Mount defeated #18 Bucknell at home, 12-11, while falling at #2 Maryland (23-6), #6 Virginia (18-11) and #6 Johns Hopkins (19-9).

MARYLAND TIES:  Mount St. Mary's assistant coach Joe Cinosky was a USILA All-America choice and a first team All-ACC selection for Maryland in 2008.  He was a four-year starter and helped lead the Terrapins to 43 wins and two NCAA semifinal appearances during his career.

THE NORTHEAST CONFERENCE:  The Mountaineers are in the Northeast Conference, which will be in its fourth season of play.  The NEC has a new look this year as Hobart and Saint Joseph's join the league, which includes the Mount, Bryant, Robert Morris, Sacred Heart and Wagner.  Mount St. Mary's won the inaugural NEC title in 2011, while Bryant has won the league the past two years.

UP NEXT:  The Mount will visit Georgetown on Wednesday, February 12, at 3:00 p.m.
