MOUNT UPDATE: Mount St. Mary's fell to 0-2 on the season with a 10-4 loss at Georgetown on February 12. Goalkeeper Chris Klaiber made a career-high 20 saves to keep the Mount in the game. Clayton Wainer scored twice for the Mount while Christian Durham and Greg Mulvaney also scored. The Mount trailed 6-2 at the half, and was outshot 46-22 in the game.
ABOUT THE BLUE HENS: Delaware enters Saturday's game with a 1-2 record after an 18-8 loss to Fairfield in their last outing. The Blue Hens opened the season with a 10-3 win over High Point, and followed with a 6-4 loss to Bucknell. Connor McRoy leads the team with seven points (3g, 4a) while Brian Kormondy has five (3g, 2a). In goal, Conor Peaks has started all three games, posting an 8.73 goals against average and 30 saves in the three games.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES: Delaware holds a 10-2 lead in the all-time series with the Mount, but the Mountaineers have won the past two meetings. Last year, Mount St. Mary's posted a 15-12 win at Waldron Family Stadium. The previous season, the Mount edged No. 16 Delaware, 12-10, on the road in the team's season opener. The Mount is 1-5 all-time on the road against the Blue Hens.
LAST YEAR'S GAME: Mount St. Mary's outscored Delaware, 6-3, in the final quarter to earn a 15-12 win over the Blue Hens at Waldron Family Stadium in Emmitsburg last season. With the score tied at 10-10 midway through the fourth quarter, the Mountaineers rattled off four consecutive goals to earn the victory. Andrew Scalley had a nine-point day on three goals and six assists to pace the Mountaineer offense. Cody Lehrer added four goals and an assist while Brett Schmidt also tallied four goals in the victory. Nick Diachenko led Delaware with five goals and an assist in the loss.
KLAIBER STEPS UP IN THE CAGE: Senior Chris Klaiber recorded a career-high 20 saves in the Mount's 10-4 loss at Georgetown on Feb. 12. It was the most saves by a Mountaineer player since T.C. DiBartolo made 20 against Georgetown on April 7, 2010. It is just the 17th time in school history that a goalkeeper has made 20 or more saves in a game. The Mount record is 30 saves set by Pat McNulty against Villanova on April 28, 1990.
NEW LOOK LINEUP: The Mountaineers had plenty of new faces in the starting lineup at Maryland. The entire starting attack (Matt Yates, Bubba Johnson and Ryan Lamon) and the entire starting midfield (Robert Jones, Evan Gormley, Clayton Wainer) were comprised of players making their first collegiate starts. In addition, defenseman Nick Firman made his first career start in the game.
FIRST GOALS: The Mount's had three players score their first collegiate goal at Maryland. Robert Jones, Bubba Johnson and Ryan Lamon each found the back of the net for their first career tallies in the game. Greg Mulvaney tallied his first career goal in the Mount's 10-4 loss at Georgetown.
THE SCHEDULE: The Mount once again will face a challenging non-conference schedule. The Mount plays three teams ranked in the top 20 in the USILA Preseason Poll (#7 Maryland, #5 Virginia, #8 Johns Hopkins) and has three others receiving votes (Bryant, Drexel, Georgetown) on the schedule.
PRESEASON POLL: The Mount was tabbed to finish in sixth place in the annual Northeast Conference Preseason Poll. Defending champion Bryant was picked to finish first with Robert Morris and Hobart in a tie for second. Saint Joseph's, Sacred Heart, the Mount and Wagner round out the poll.
THE NORTHEAST CONFERENCE: The Mountaineers are in the Northeast Conference, which will be in its fourth season of play. The NEC has a new look this year as Hobart and Saint Joseph's join the league, which includes the Mount, Bryant, Robert Morris, Sacred Heart and Wagner. Mount St. Mary's won the inaugural NEC title in 2011, while Bryant has won the league the past two years.
