Rosemier-Gussio Named NEC Rookie Of The Meet At NEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships

EMMITSBURG, Md. – Coby Rosemier-Gussio (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro) was named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Championship Men's Track & Field Rookie of the Meet to lead Mount St. Mary's to a fifth-place standing at the championship. On the women's side, Heather Juhring (Logan Township, N.J./Kingsway Regional) won the javelin to pace the Mount to a sixth-place standing.

Rosemier-Gussio earned NEC Rookie of the Meet honors after anchoring the winning 4x400 relay team that won the event with an IC4A qualifying time of 3:14.69 in the final race of the day. The freshman, who was the NEC Rookie of the Meet for the indoor season, also finished second in the 200-meter dash (21.69) and fourth in the 100-meter dash (21.69) with IC4A qualifying times in both events.

Tom FitzSimons (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) opened the winning 4x400 relay and was followed by Tim Nickas (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City), Gigi Gibilisco (Newtown, Pa./Notre Dame [N.J.]) before Rosemier-Gussio brought home the gold for the Mountaineers.

It was a big day for FitzSimons, who also won the pole vault (4.50m/14-9) and finished fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (14.98). Gibilisco defended his 800-meter title with the win, a new-meet record time and IC4A qualifying time of 1:49.86. Nickas placed third in the pole vault (4.20m/13-9.25) to help the Mount take two of the three medals in the event.

FitzSimons, Nickas and Rosemier-Gussio ran the final three legs of the fourth place 4x100 relay (41.78) in IC4A qualifying time while Quinton Huguley (Port Tobacco, Md./McDonough) opened the race.

Dylan Bernard (Urbana, Md./Urbana) finished third in the 5000-meter run (14:44.31) and Sean Fritz (Easton, Pa./Wilson Area) was fifth in the 800-meter run (1:53.83). Jon Fernandez (Lakewood, N.J./Monsignor Donovan) was fourth in the javelin (59.74m/196-0).

Monmouth won the men's team title with a score of 159.25, 13.25 points ahead of LIU Brooklyn (146) while Sacred Heart (139.25), Saint Francis (Pa.) (94), Robert Morris (76.25), Mount St. Mary's (52), Central Connecticut State (47), Wagner (43), Quinnipiac (28.25), Fairleigh Dickinson (16), St. Francis (N.Y.) (9) and Bryant (6) rounded out the 12-team field.

On the women's side, Juhring won the javelin in her first outdoor conference championship to pace the squad. The freshman had a toss of 41.76m (137-00).

Megan Kinsella (Allentown, Pa/Allentown Central Catholic) finished second in the 3000-meter steeplechase (11:09.34). Maggie Pierce (Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell ) (42.83m/140-6) and Morgan Ostaseewski (North East, Md/North East) (40.24m/132-0) placed fourth and seventh in the discus, respectively, while Brandi Trostle (Harrisburg, Pa/Bishop McDevitt) was sixth in the javelin (33.46m/109-9).

Monmouth also took the crown on the women's side with a score of 183, 45 points ahead of LIU Brooklyn (138) while Central Connecticut State (132), Sacred Heart (95), Mount St. Mary's (83), Saint Francis (Pa.) (49), Robert Morris (47), St. Francis (N.Y.) (37), Wagner (26) and Bryant (16) rounded out the 10-team field.

On Saturday, Teika Robinson (Glenn Dale, Md/Elizabeth Seton) finished in second place in the long jump (5.80m/19-0.5). Her mark also qualifies her for the ECAC Championships.

Jess Huber (Manchester, Md./North Carroll) finished in third place in the pole vault (3.25m, 10- 8) with teammate Heather Gula (New Market, Md/Linganore) tying for seventh.  Madeleine Midles (Camas, Wash/Camas) was fourth in the hammer throw (49.72m, 163-1) for the Mountaineers as well.

For the men, Huguley placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 7.19m (23' 7.25") while Billy Lawrence (Smithsburg, Md/Smithsburg) was fifth in the high jump with a mark of 1.92m (6' 3.5").

Mount St. Mary's heads to the ECAC/IC4A Championships in Princeton, N.J., starting on Friday.
