Jacksonville, Fla. (May 24, 2012)--Mount St. Mary's senior Gigi Gibilisco advanced to the quarterfinals in the 800 meter run at the NCAA East Preliminary Round on Thursday night at Hodges Stadium.
There were six heats in the 800m run with the top three in each heat advancing to the quarterfinals. The next nine times also advanced to the quarterfinal round.
Gibilisco was in the first heat of the 800m run, finishing fifth with a time of 1:50.21, which earned him a spot in the quarterfinals tomorrow. His time was the 20th fastest in the field of 48 runners.
To earn a spot to the NCAA Finals, Gibilisco will need to be in the top three of his quarterfinal race or among the next three best times. The 800m quarterfinals will be held tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m.
Freshman Heather Juhring competed in the javelin, finishing 43rd with a throw of 38.11m (125'). Juhring was the NEC Champion this year and earned a spot at the NCAA East Preliminary Round with a school-record throw at the Colonial Relays.
