FitzSimons Finishes Eighth in the Decathlon at the Texas Relays

Austin, Texas (March 29, 2012)—Tom FitzSimons finished in eighth place in the decathlon at the Texas Relays on Thursday.  FitzSimons finished with 7,390 points in the two-day competition.

The senior opened the second day by posting a time of 15.09 seconds in the 110m hurdles for 839 points.  He followed with a toss of 36.73m (120' 6") for 598 points in the discus throw.  He matched a personal best with a mark of 4.60m (15' 1") in the pole vault, good for 790 points, in the third event of day two.

In the javelin, FitzSimons had a throw of 50.41m (56' 5") for 595 points.  He closed the day in strong fashion with a time the top time in the field in the 1,500m (4:13.41), collecting 857 points.

Yesterday, FitzSimons opened day one with a time of 11.14 seconds in the 100m dash for 830 points.  He followed with 729 points in the long jump (6.64m, 21' 9.5") and 576 points in the shot put (11.50m, 37' 8.75").  FitzSimons then tallied 714 points in the high jump with a mark of 1.90m (6' 2.75") before ending the day with 862 points in the 400m dash with a time of 48.62 seconds.

Isaac Murphy of Texas won the event with 8,067 points, followed by Romain Martin of Texas-Arlington (7,977).

FitzSimons finished in fifth place last year with 7,606 points.
