Tom FitzSimons in 11th Place After First Day of Decathlon at Texas Relays

Austin, Texas (March 28, 2012)—Tom FitzSimons finished the first day of the decathlon in 11th place at the Texas Relays on Wednesday.  FitzSimons tallied 3,711 points over the first five events.

FitzSimons opened the day with a time of 11.14 seconds in the 100m dash for 830 points.  He followed with 729 points in the long jump (6.64m, 21' 9.5") and 576 points in the shot put (11.50m, 37' 8.75").  FitzSimons then tallied 714 points in the high jump with a mark of 1.90m (6' 2.75") before ending the day with 862 points in the 400m dash with a time of 48.62 seconds.

Boise State's Kurt Felix leads the competition with 4,194 points, just two ahead of second-place Isaac Murphy of Texas.

Last year, FitzSimons had 3,812 points and was in seventh place after the first day en route to a fifth-place finish at the event.
