Mount Men's Lacrosse Loses to Drexel, 11-6

Emmitsburg, Md. (March 17, 2012)--Mount St. Mary's lost to visiting Drexel, 11-6, in men's lacrosse action at Waldron Family Stadium on Saturday afternoon.  Brett Schmidt paced the Mount with two goals and an assist in the loss.

Drexel (3-5) scored three times in the final 51 seconds of the first quarter to take a 3-0 lead.  Aaron Prosser started the run with the first of his three goals in the game.  T.J. Foley then scored with 11 seconds left in the quarter for a 2-0 lead, and Deven Thomas scored just six seconds later to extend the lead to three.

The Mount got on the scoreboard early in the second quarter when Mike Adkins tallied his fourth goal of the year.  Drexel countered with goals from Brendan Glynn and Prosser to make it 5-1 before Bryant Schmidt converted a pass from his brother, Brett, to cut the Mount deficit to 5-2 at the half.

The Dragons scored twice in the opening 3:08 of the second half for a 7-2 lead, forcing a Mount timeout.  The Mountaineers (2-4) responded by scoring twice in a span of eight seconds to cut the Drexel advantage to 7-4 with 10:33 left in the third quarter.  Brett Schmidt scored both of the goals with Christian Kellett recording an assist on each.

Drexel stopped the Mount run on a goal by Kyle Bergman, but Daniel Stranix scored twice for the Mount to close out the quarter with Drexel leading 8-6.

Drexel, however, scored all three goals in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.

Schmidt paced the Mount with two goals and an assist in the loss.  The senior attack, who leads the Mount with 14 goals, has scored two or more goals in all six games this season.  He now has scored a goal in 19 consecutive games, the fifth-longest current streak in the nation.

Stranix added a pair of goals while Kellett dished out a team-high three assists.  Drexel held the Mount's Andrew Scalley off the scoresheet, snapping his 37-game point streak. Goalkeeper Chris Klaiber made 11 saves in the game for the Mount.

Prosser led Drexel with three goals while Foley added a pair.  Bergman and Andrew Vivian chipped in a goal and an assist each in the victory.  Mark Manos made seven saves while allowing six goals in the win in goal.

Drexel outshot the Mount, 32-18, in the game and held a 25-13 edge in ground balls. 

The Mount returns to action on Saturday, March 24, with a 3:00 p.m. game at Michigan.
