Box Score Washington, D.C. (March 13, 2012)--Mount St. Mary's saw a three-goal fourth-quarter lead slip away as No. 18 Georgetown rallied for a 9-8 win on Tuesday night. Brett Schmidt had two goals and an assist to pace the Mount in the loss.
With the score tied at 4-4 at the half, the Mount used a big third quarter to take a three-goal advantage. Bryan Kane's first goal of the season put the Mount ahead five minutes into the third. Brett Schmidt made it 6-4 when he converted a pass from twin brother, Bryant, just under two minutes later.
Connor Carey pushed the Mount (2-3) lead to 7-4 with 6:34 left in the third before Georgetown's Zack Angel stopped the Mount run to make it 7-5. Daniel Stranix was able to counter for the Mount with his seventh goal of the year for an 8-5 lead after three quarters of play.
The Hoyas (3-1), however, dominated play in the fourth quarter to pull out the come-from-behind victory. Georgetown outshot the Mount, 18-0, in the quarter while scoring all four goals to earn the win.
Zac Guy started the comeback with a goal just 1:10 into the final quarter. Three minutes later, Angel struck on an extra-man opportunity to cut the Mount's lead to 8-7.
Travis Comeau evened the score with 7:29 left and Brian Casey's goal 46 seconds later gave the Hoyas the 9-8 lead.
The Mount was unable to get a shot off in the final 6:43, managing three turnovers on their possessions.
Chris Klaibler made a career-high 14 saves for the Mount in the loss. Face-off specialist Jon Marsalese won 12-of-21 face-offs while picking up five ground balls.
On offense, Brett Schmidt led with two goals and an assist. Schmidt, who has scored a goal in 18 consecutive games, now has two or more goals in all five games this season. Scalley finished with a goal and an assist for the Mount, stretching his consecutive games streak with a point to 37 games.
Mike Adkins, Christian Kellett, Kane, Carey and Stranix rounded out the Mount's goal scorers in the loss.
Angel led the Hoyas with a hat trick with Guy finishing with two goals and two assists for a game-high four points. Jason McFadden and Casey each had a goal and an assist for the Hoyas while goalkeeper Matt Winter made nine saves.
The Mount returns to action on Saturday, March 17, when Drexel visits Waldron Family Stadium for a 4:00 p.m. matchup.
