Mount Track Teams Finish First Day of NEC Championships

The Mount St. Mary's men's and women's track and field teams completed the first day of competition at the Northeast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships held at the Prince George's Sports and Learning Center on Saturday.  The men's team is in sixth place after the first day while the women are in fifth.

For the men, freshman Coby Rosemier-Gussio finished in fourth place in the long jump with a leap of 6.90m (22' 7.5").  Billy Lawrence scored in the high jump with a sixth-place finish (1.91m, 6' 3.25") with Jon Fernandez finishing eighth in the weight throw (15.65m, 51' 4.25").

Rosemier-Gussio had a strong day in the running events as well, qualifying for Sunday's finals in both the 60m and 200m dash.  Gigi Gibilisco advanced to the final in the 800m run with Chris Swisko earning a spot in the mile run.

The women were led by Jess Huber's third-place finish in the pole vault.  Chantel Lipkins was sixth in the long jump (5.49m, 18' 0.25") with Teika Robinson placing eighth in the event (5.42m, 17' 9.5").  Heather Gula added an eighth-place mark in the pole vault.

Desi Scott moved on to Sunday's final in the 800m run as well.

The meet concludes tomorrow.
