Tom FitzSimons Wins Heptathlon to Pace Mount Track at Navy Invitational

Annapolis, Md. (January 14, 2012)--Tom FitzSimons won the heptathlon to pace the Mount St. Mary's men's and women's indoor track and field teams at the Navy Invitational.  Other highlights included Gigi Gibilisco winning the 500m in an IC4A qualifying time while Desi Scott was second in the 1,000m with an ECAC qualifying mark.

FitzSimons tallied 5,036 points to break the Wesley A. Brown Field House Record in the seven-event heptathlon.  FitzSimons ran 7.35 in the 60m dash (762 points), had a mark of 6.48m in the long jump (693), posted a throw of 10.71m in the shot put (528) and had a high jump of 1.89m (7-5) on Friday in the first day of competition.

On Saturday, FitzSimons had a time of 8.67 in the 60m hurdles (820 points), a vault of 4.55m in the pole vault for 775 points and a time of 2:51.20 in the 1000m for his final 753 points.

Gigi Gibilisco won the 500m dash with an IC4A qualifying time of 1:04.59.  Coby Rosemier-Gussio was third in the 200m dash with a mark of 22.25 seconds while Quinton Huguley placed second in the long jump at 6.65 meters.

For the women, Scott was second in the 1000m run with an ECAC qualifying mark of 2:55.01.  Morgan Ostasewski was fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 15.85 meters.

The Mount returns to action at the Bucknell Gulden Invitational on Saturday, January 21.
