Emmitsburg, Md. (May 8, 2011)-Top seeded Mount St. Mary's defeated second-seeded Quinnipiac, 14-9, to win the inaugural Northeast Conference Tournament championship on Sunday afternoon at Waldron Family Stadium on the campus of Mount St. Mary's University.

Senior goalkeeper T.C. DiBartolo made 14 saves to earn Most Valuable Player honors while Andrew Scalley scored five goals in the victory.

It is the Mount's second consecutive conference title.  Last year, the Mountaineers won the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference title in their final season in the league.

Trailing 6-4 midway through the second quarter, the Mount rattled off four consecutive goals to take an 8-6 lead at the half.  Brett Schmidt scored twice and assisted on a pair of Scalley goals in the run.

Quinnipiac's Basil Kostaras scored just over two minutes into the third quarter to cut the Mount advantage to 8-7, but Cody Lehrer and Scalley scored back-to-back goals to put the Mount ahead 10-7 after three quarters of play.

The Bobcats (7-7) fought back on goals by Kevin Kelly and Christian Haggerty to cut the Mount lead to 10-9 with 8:31 left in the game.  Scalley answered the goal just 11 seconds later when he scooped up a loose ball and beat Quinnipiac goalkeeper Kevin Benzing to push the lead back to two.

Daniel Stanix added an unassisted goal with 5:58 left before Bryant Schmidt sealed the win with a pair of goals in a 20-second span in the final two minutes to give the Mount the 14-9 victory.

Scalley, who was the MAAC Tournament MVP last year, matched his career high of five goals to earn a spot on the All-Tournament team.  Brett Schmidt added three goals and three assists in the win while twin brother Bryant Schmidt added a hat trick in the victory.

Brett Schmidt tallied five goals and three assists in the Mount's two games over the weekend to earn All-Tournament team honors.  Cody Lehrer, who scored four goals in the Mount's 14-9 win over Bryant on Friday, added a goal and an assist in today's championship game to garner All-Tournament team honors.

DiBartolo made 25 saves while posting a 9.00 goals against average and a .581 save percentage in the pair of wins in the tournament to earn MVP and All-Tournament team accolades.

Face-off specialist Ben Trapp, a second team All-NEC selection, won 19-of-26 face-offs in the game while scooping up a game-high 11 ground balls. 

The Bobcats held a slight 37-to-36 advantage in shots in the game, but the Mount had a dominating 30-to-16 edge in ground balls.

Haggerty finished the game with three goals and an assist while Kevin Kelly added a hat trick in the loss.  Kostaras chipped in a pair of goals for the Bobcats while Jack Oppenheimer had a goal and an assist in the game.

Benzing made 11 saves for Quinnipiac to earn All-Tournament team honors along with Oppenheimer and Haggerty.  Bryant's Mason Polie and Trever Sipperly along with Corbyn Tao-Brambleby and Patrick Smith of Robert Morris also made the All-Tournament squad.
