Austin, Texas (April 6, 2011)-Mount St. Mary's
senior Tom FitzSimons finished the first day of the decathlon in
seventh place at the Texas Relays. FitzSimons totaled 3,812 points
in the opening five events, posting personal bests in the 100m dash
and the high jump.
FitzSimons opened the first day by finishing eighth in the 100m
dash with a time of 10.90 seconds, good for 883 points. He had the
ninth-best mark in the long jump at 6.82m (22' 4.5") for 771
points.
In the third event, FitzSimons earned 566 points in the shot put
with his mark of 11.33m (37' 2.25"). He closed out the first day
strong, tying for the fourth-best high jump score at 1.93m (6' 4"),
good for 740 points before posting the top time in the 400m
dash.
FitzSimons earned 852 points for his mark of 49.20 seconds in
the 400m dash.
The strong field has 22 competing. The decathlon finishes
tomorrow.
