Mount Update: The Mount lost to Towson, 11-3,
at home last Saturday to fall to 0-2 on the year. Sophomore
Andrew Scalley scored twice to pace the Mount
offense while Bryant Schmidt added the other
goal. Goalkeeper T.C. DiBartolo made 14 saves in
the loss. Scalley's two-goal game extended his consecutive games
streak with at least one point to 19 games.
About the Titans: Detroit is 1-5 this season
and is coming off a 13-9 loss to Lehigh on Sunday. Shayne
Adams scored four goals to lead the Titans against Lehigh
and has a team-high 17 goals this season. Scott
Harris is second on the team with 11 points (4g, 7a) while
Alex Maini has 10 points (6g, 4a). In goal,
A.J. Levell has a 10.62 goals against average and
a .496 save percentage while starting all six games.
The All-Time Series with Detroit:
The Mount won the first-ever meeting between the
two schools, 12-9, in Detroit last year.
Last Year's Meeting: Cody Lehrer scored six
goals while Brett Schmidt added a goal and a
career-best six assists to lead the Mount past Detroit, 12-9, on
April 10 last year. Andrew Scalley added two
goals and two assists with Jake Willertz chipping
in a pair of scores as well for the Mount. Detroit took a 6-4 lead
early in the third quarter, but the Mountaineers responded by
scoring the next six goals to earn the win. Matt
Gregson had four goals for Detroit in the loss.
The Mount and the MAAC: This will be the
Mount's first game against a MAAC opponent this year. The Mount
won the MAAC title last year in its last season in the league
before joining the Northeast Conference this year. The Mount will
also play MAAC members Jacksonville and VMI this year.
The Northeast Conference: The Northeast
Conference is in its first season in men's lacrosse this year.
With the addition of Bryant to the league, the NEC had six member
schools playing men's lacrosse, leading to the formation of the
conference. Joining the Mount in the NEC for men's lacrosse are
Bryant, Quinnipiac, Robert Morris, Sacred Heart and Wagner.
Mount Picked Third in NEC Preseason Poll: The
Mount has been tabbed to finish in third place in the NEC Preseason
Coaches Poll. Robert Morris has been picked as the league
favorite, followed by Bryant, the Mount, Quinnipiac, Sacred Heart
and Wagner.
Plenty of Offense Returning: The Mount returns
its top 10 scorers from last year's record-setting squad. In fact,
174 of the team's 180 goals last year were scored by returning
players.
Streaking: Attack Andrew Scalley is riding an
19-game point-scoring streak for the Mountaineers. Scalley has
tallied 36 goals and 17 assists for 53 points during the 19-game
streak, which started with his first career game against Virginia
last year.
Checking in with the Career Numbers: Junior
Cody Lehrer is 23rd all-time at the Mount with 64 career
goals...Ben Trapp is sixth all-time with 184 ground balls and
eighth in face-off win percentage (.500)...T.C. DiBartolo is third
in saves (581), 10th in save percentage (.578)and third
in goals against average (9.71).
Head Coach Tom Gravante: Mount St. Mary's head
coach Tom Gravante is in his 16th season at the helm of
the men's lacrosse program. Gravante has led the Mount to a pair
of NCAA Tournament appearances (2003 and 2010). He has a career
mark of 107-132 and he trails Randy Kilgore (1970-89, 120-92) on
the Mount's all-time win list by 13. He was named the Coach of the
Year by both the Northeast Conference and the Metro Atlantic
Athletic Conference last season. Gravante owns four MAAC Coach of
the Year honors and he led the Mount to six championship game
appearances in the 11 seasons the MAAC held a postseason
tournament.
