Emmitsburg, Md. (March 5,
2011)--Mount St. Mary's lost to Towson, 11-3, in the men's
lacrosse home opener on Saturday afternoon at Waldron Family
Stadium on campus. Sophomore Andrew
Scalley paced the Mount with a pair of goals in the game.
Towson (1-2) jumped to the early lead,
taking a 4-0 advantage just past the midway point of the opening
quarter. Matt Hughes opened the scoring 1:51 into the game to
stake the Tigers to a 1-0 lead. Hughes assisted on a Andrew
Hodgson goal just 52 seconds later. Stephen Norris and Hughes
finished the run before the Mount's Scalley scored his third of the
season with 49 seconds left in the opening frame.
Thomas DeNapoli and Hughes added
back-to-back scores for a 6-1 Towson lead before Bryant
Schmidt beat Towson keeper Travis Love with 3:36 left in the
half to make it 6-2.
DeNapoli and Michael Brashears tallied
the only two goals in the third quarter for the Tigers while Matt
Lamon and Hodgson added fourth-quarter goals to give Towson a 10-2
lead. Scalley scored a nice behind-the-back goal on a feed from Brendan
Harrison with 3:39 left, but Norris rounded out the scoring
with an extra-man goal with 34 seconds left for the 11-2 final.
Towson held a 46-to-31 shot advantage in
the game. Hughes finished the day with three goals and an assist
while Hodgson added two goals and one assist. DeNapoli and Norris
chipped in a pair of goals each in the win while Love made 11 saves
while allowing just two goals in 53:11 of action to earn the
win.
Scalley paced the Mount with his two-goal
effort, stretching his streak of consecutive games with at least
one point to 19. Goalkeeper T.C.
DiBartolo made 14 saves in the game, including 11 in the second

Trapp won 10-of-17 face-offs for the Mount, tallying a
team-high seven ground balls.
The Mount (0-2) returns to action on
Wednesday, March 9, with a 1:00 p.m. game against Detroit Mercy at
Waldron Family Stadium.
