Landover, Md. (February 12, 2011)--The Mount
St. Mary's men's and women's indoor track and field teams completed
the first day of the Northeast Conference Championships at the
Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex on Saturday.
The women's team is currently in fourth place with 15 points
while the men's team is in eighth with 10.5 points. Monmouth leads
both the men's and women's championships after the first day.
Leading the way for the women was Morgan Ostasewski, who set the
school record in the weight throw with a toss of 17.22m (56' 6"),
finishing fourth in an extremely talented field. Margaret Pierce
earned an eighth-place nod in the event as well (15.38m, 50'
0.5"). The top five finishers in the weight throw had ECAC
qualifying marks. Teika Robinson was fourth in the long jump
(5.50m, 18' 0.5") with Megan Kinsella fifth in the 3,000m run
(10:26.91).
The Mount had six qualify for tomorrow's finals in the seven
running events. The list includes Lily Otu (400m, 58.43), Megan
Kinsella (Mile, 5:13.58), Colleen Smith (Mile, 5:19.68), Desiree
Scott (500m, 1:16.76), Ashley DeCruise (60m dash, 7.60 ECAC
qualifying mark and 200m dash, 24.77, ECAC qualifying mark), Ashlyn
DeCruise (200m dash, 25.71).
For the men, Quinton Huguley was third in the long jump (6.95m,
22' 9.75") In the men's pole vault, Scott Rice finished sixth with
a vault of 4.35m (14' 3.25") while Tim Nickas tied for seventh
(4.20m, 13' 9.25").
The Mount had five athletes qualify for finals tomorrow in the
running events. The list includes Chris Swisko (Mile, 4:22.77,
Jason Kymingham (400m, 51.17), Chad Brown (60m dash, 6.94, IC4A
qualifying mark and 200m dash, 22.84), Gigi Gibilisco (800m,
1:55.13) and Tom FitzSimons (60m hurdles, 8.60).
