Mount St. Mary's Defeated by NEC Leader Saint Francis (Pa.), 2-0

Box Score

Emmitsburg, Md. (October 16, 2011)--Mount St. Mary's lost to Northeast Conference leader Saint Francis (Pa.), 2-0, on Sunday afternoon at Waldron Family Stadium on campus.

The Mount carried play in the opening part of the game, recording the first four shots of the contest.  Ragan Cote had a pair of shots while Sadie Winship had one stopped by Saint Francis keeper Brianna Butcher in that stretch.

The Red Flash (9-5-1, 5-0-1 NEC), however, broke into the scoring column in the 30th minute.  Briana Tata served a ball into the middle that was popped up in the air and off the crossbar by a Mount defender.  Alecia McNiff headed that rebound into a Mount defender at the goal line, but it was ruled the ball had already crossed the line before the block, giving the Red Flash a 1-0 lead.

Beatriz Maros de Carvalho gave Saint Francis a 2-0 lead early in the second half when she corralled a loose ball and tapped it in at the far post.

The Mount (4-8-2, 2-4-0 NEC) had a great scoring chance with just under 23 minutes left, but Keriann McGettigan's shot from 18 yards out went off the cross bar.

Saint Francis held a slight 15-to-14 advantage in shots in the game.  Mount goalkeeper Alicia Miller made three saves while Butcher had six in the contest.

The Mountaineers return to action on Friday, October 21, when Central Connecticut State visits Waldron Family Stadium for a 4:00 p.m. game.
