Poughkeepsie, N.Y. (May 6, 2010)-Mount St.
Mary's sophomore Cody Lehrer (Baltimore,
Md./Dulaney) has been named the 2010 Metro Atlantic
Athletic Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Year while head
coach Tom Gravante was named the Anaconda Sports
MAAC Coach of the Year.
Additionally, Lehrer, Bryant Schmidt (Great Mills,
Md./St. Mary's Ryken) and Matt Nealis (Chatham,
N.Y./Chatham) earned First Team All-MAAC honors while
T.C. DiBartolo (Bowie, Md./Archbishop Spalding)
and Russell Moncure (Alexandria, Va./T.C.
Williams) were named Second Team All-MAAC.
Three Mount St. Mary's student-athletes earned a spot on the
MAAC's All-Academic team. Senior goalkeeper A.J. Schaufler
(Bernardsville, Md./Bernardsville), junior midfielder
Brendan Harriston (Ellicott City, Md./Mount
Hebron) and sophomore midfielder Jake Willertz
(Severn, Md./Mount St. Joseph) all earned the honor. To
be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student athlete must
complete two semesters at their institution and hold a cumulative
grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale
Gravante wins MAAC Coach of the Year honors for the fourth time
in his career. He has guided the Mount to a 10-4 record this
season, just the seventh time in school history the team has posted
double figures in wins. Gravante previous won MAAC Coach of the
Year in 1997, 1999 and 2003.
Lehrer, a 6-0 sophomore attack, leads the Mount with 46 goals
and eight assists for 54 points this season. His 46 goals are the
third-best single-season mark in Mount history. He is currently
third in the nation in goals per game (3.29) and fourth in total
goals. He is a three-time MAAC Player of the Week winner this
season.
Schmidt, a sophomore midfielder, is third on the team with 33
points (17g, 16a). Schmidt scored a season-high three goals in the
Mount's 13-9 win over Marist on Saturday that helped the team
clinch second-place in the MAAC standings. Schmidt had a
season-high five points (1g, 4a) in the Mount's 19-13 win over No.
19 Robert Morris.
Nealis, a senior, earns First Team All-NEC honors on defense for
the second year in a row. The 6-4 defender has been solid for the
Mount this year. He has picked up 17 ground balls with six caused
turnovers while being assigned to the opponent's top scorer each
game.
DiBartolo, a junior goalkeeper, earns Second Team All-MAAC
honors this season after being named First Team All-Conference last
year. DiBartolo has a 9.29 GAA and a .583 save percentage on the
season. DiBartolo has been even better in MAAC play, recording a
6.98 GAA and a .634 save percentage in eight league games.
Moncure, a senior defenseman, earns All-Conference honors for
the first time in his career. Moncure leads the team with 14
caused turnovers while pitching in 23 ground balls this season.
Mount St. Mary's, the No. 2 seed in the MAAC Tournament, will
face Manhattan in the MAAC Semifinals tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. at
Marist College's Tenney Stadium. Top-seeded Siena and Marist will
square off in the other semifinal game. The championship game is
set for 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 9.
