Emmitsburg, Md. (May 1, 2010)--The Mount St. Mary's men's and
women's outdoor track and field teams finished the first day of
competition at the Northeast Conference Championships that is being
held at the Mount's Morgan Track on campus.
The
Mount women's team is in seventh place after the first day of
competition while the men's team is in eighth place.
For
the women's squad, Jessica Huber finished in third place in the
pole vault with a mark of 3.30m to pace the team. In the long
jump, the freshman tandem of Chantel Lipkins and Teika Robinson
finished in sixth and seventh place, respectively. Lipkins had a
mark of 5.51m while Robinson's jump was 5.47m. Madeleine Midles
was sixth in the hammer throw with a toss of 47.85m.
In
the preliminaries, sisters Ashley and Ashlyn DeCruise each
qualified for the finals in both the 100m and 200m dash. In the
100m, Ashley had the top time of 12.00 in the preliminaries while
Ashlyn was second at 12.09. In the 200, Ashley had the top mark of
24.56 while Ashlyn was second at 24.79.
Lily Otu had the top qualifying mark in the 400m with a time of
56.03 while Kathryn Franke, Megan Kinsella and Colleen Smith all
qualified for the final in the 1500m run.
On
the men's side, Quinton Huguley was third in the long jump with a
mark of 7.30m while Tom FitzSimons finished eighth with a mark of
7.12m. Dylan Bernard was seventh in the 10,000m run with a time of
32:32.76.
In
the preliminaries, Chad Brown qualified for the finals in the 100m
and 200m dash. He had the best time in the field in both events.
His mark in the 100m was 10.62 while he had a time of 21.61 in the
200m.
In
the 110m hurdles, Iggy Ignaczak (15.15) and FitzSimons (15.12) both
qualified for the finals while Joe Orsulak qualified in the 800m
run.
