Emmitsburg, Md. (April 7, 2010)- Sophomore
Cody Lehrer (Baltimore, Md./Dulaney) has
been named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Week while sophomore
Bryant Schmidt (Great Mills, Md./St. Mary's Ryken)
earned MAAC Rookie of the Week honors on Tuesday.
Lehrer exploded for seven goals and an assist in the Mount's
14-12 win over No. 10 Lafayette on Saturday after scoring one goal
in a 9-8 win over Sacred Heart last Wednesday. Lehrer's seven-goal
game was the most by a Mount player since Matt Warner had eight
against Saint Joseph's on April 20, 2005. It is also just the
eighth time in Mount history that a player has scored seven or more
goals in a game. Lehrer, who leads the Mount with 27 goals and 30
points in seven games, has been named NEC Player of the Week honors
twice this year. This is the second MAAC Offensive Player of the
Week award for Lehrer this season.
Schmidt, a sophomore who sat out last season for the Mount, had
three goals and three assists in the Mount's 2-0 week. He helped
the Mount off to a fast start in the 14-12 win over No. 10
Lafayette by scoring two goals in a span of 1:01 to give the Mount
a 3-0 lead just 2:08 into the game. He finished the day with two
goals and two assists to help lead the Mount to its first-ever win
over a top-10 opponent. The sophomore added a goal and an assist
in the Mount's 8-9 win over Sacred Heart on Wednesday. Schmidt is
second on the team with 18 points while dishing out a team-high 12
assists this season. For his efforts, the midfielder earns NEC
Rookie of the Week.
The Mount returns to action on Wednesday, April 7, with a 7:00
p.m. game at No. 11 Georgetown. The game will be televised on a
tape-delayed basis on the Verizon FIOS network.
