West Long Branch, N.J. (May 2, 2009)--The Mount's
javelin throwers posted big days to pace the team on the first day
of the Northeast Conference Championships hosted by Monmouth
University on Saturday. The Mount men's team finished the first
day of competition in sixth place while the women's team is in
seventh.
On the women's side, sophomore Hannah Dubois (Thurmont,
Md./Catoctin) posted a third-place finish in the javelin with a
toss of 35.88m. Also scoring for the Mount were pole vaulters Dana
Collins (Bensalem, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) and Jessica Huber
(Manchester, Md./North Carroll) who tied for sixth place with a
mark of 3.10m. In the discus, Maggie
Pierce (Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) finished in sixth place
with a mark of 37.16m (121-11) with teammate Sarah
Klemic (Somers Point, N.J./Mainland Regional) placed eighth
with a toss of 36.10m (188-5).
The Mount had plenty of qualifiers for tomorrow's championship
races on the women's side as well. Twin sisters Ashley
DeCruise (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) and Lynnie
DeCruise (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) each qualified for
the finals in the 100m and 200m dash. Sheena
Simpkins (Middletown, N.Y./Middletown) qualified in the 200m
and 400m dash while Sara
Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) qualified in the 100m
dash as well.
Brianne
Vozzella (Hershey, Pa./Lower Dauphin) qualfied for the finals
in the 800m run while Samantha
Willox (Kent Island, Md./Kent Island) and Maura
Tipping (Landsdowne, Pa./Mount Mercy Academy) each qualified in
the 1500m run.
On the men's side, freshman Jon
Fernandez (Lakewood, N.J./Monsignor Donovan) finished in
third-place in the javelin with an IC4A qualifying mark of 59.16m
(194-1). Fellow freshman Dan
Ennis (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) was eighth in the javelin
with a toss of 52.20m (171-3).
Freshman Quinton
Huguley (Port Tobacco, Md./McDonough) was fifth in the long
jump (6.83m) and seventh in the high jump (1.84m). In the discus,
freshman Alan
Coulson (Toms River, N.J./Monsignor Donovan) was seventh in the
discus (41.05m) with teammate Ed
Brady (Washington Township, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) eighth
with a mark of 39.10m.
The 4x800m relay team of Morgan
Sowell (Frederick, Md./Frederick), Will Mitchell (Laurel,
Md./DeMatha Catholic), Jason
Kymingham (Glenwood, Md./Glenelg) and Gigi
Gibilisco (Newtown, Pa./Notre Dame [N.J.]) finished in seventh
place with a time of 8:00.62.
Freshman Dylan
Bernard (Frederick, Md./Urbana) was sixth in the 1000m run in a
time of 32:18.76.
Qualifying for the finals tomorrow were

Brown (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg) in both the 100m and 200m
dash, Joe
Orsulak (Cockeysville, Md./Loyola Blakefield) in the 800m run,
Quenton
Beard (Frederick, Md./Frederick) in the 110m hurdles, and
Gibilisco in the 400m hurdles.
