EMMITSBURG,
Md. Marist defeated Mount St. Mary's 7-4 in Metro Atlantic
Athletic Conference (MAAC) men's lacrosse action on Saturday.
Mark
Stapor (Herndon, Va./Bishop O'Connell) paced the Mount (1-4, 1-1
NEC) with two goals while T.C. DiBartolo (Bowie, Md./Archbishop
Spalding) made 11 saves in the loss.
Ryan
Sharkey fueled the Red Foxes (2-3, 2-0 MAAC) with two goals and an
assist while Matt Teichman added two markers. Ryan Penner made 16
saves in the winning effort.
Marist
scored the final goal of the first quarter and added and never
looked back to earn the 7-4 victory.
After the
Mount tied the game at 3 on consecutive tallies, Sharkey handed the
Red Foxes the lead for good on an unassisted tally with 1:35 left
in the first quarter.
Marist
then scored the first goal of the second quarter after Corey Zindel
set up Lou Loria at the 10:51 mark.
Mount St.
Mary's answered when Stapor picked up the rebound off a shot and
found the back of the net for his second goal of the afternoon at
5:53 in the second quarter to trim the margin to 5-4.
Sharkey
and Zindel responded for the Red Foxes with goals at 3:13 and 2:51,
respectively, in the third quarter for a 7-4 lead. The Mount had 13
shots in the final quarter, but could get no closer in the
scoreless period.
Marist
jumped out to a quick 1-0 advantage after winning the opening
faceoff and Sharkey fed Dan Lang seven seconds into the
contest.
Cody
Lehrer (Baltimore, Md./Dulaney) answered for the Mountaineers with
an unassisted tally at 13:09 in the first quarter.
Teichmann
responded with back-to-back unassisted goals at 10:27 and 9:26 to
hand the Red Foxes a 3-1 advantage.
Mount St.
Mary's then tied the game at 3 thanks to a Stapor unassisted tally
at 9:15 and a Christian Kellett (Audobon, Pa./Malvern Prep) goal
off an Anthony Golden (Timonium, Md./Loyola Blakefield) assist at
the 5:48 mark in the first quarter. Sharkey then completed a
seven-goal first period and gave Marist the lead to stay with 1:35
left in the stanza.
The Mount
returns to action on Saturday at the Waldron Family Stadium against
Lafayette. Game time is 1 p.m.
