Huntington, W. Va. (September 7, 2008)--The
Citadel handed Mount St. Mary's a 4-1 loss on Sunday afternoon at
the Marshall Thundering Herd Nike Invitational. With the loss, the
Mount falls to 0-5 this season.
The Bulldogs broke on top 31:31 into the game when Nikki Mares
headed a Jessica Stewart cross past Mount St. Mary's goalkeeper
Sadie Winship (York, Pa./Eastern York). The score
remained 1-0 at the half despite the Mount holding a 12-11
advantage in shots.
Mares broke the game open for the Citadel (1-2-1) with her second
goal of the game 6:09 into the second half. Stewart then scored
just 39 seconds later for a three-goal advantage before Jessa Scott
tallied an unassisted marker for a 4-0 Bulldog lead.
The Mount's Kim Karpinski (Freehold, N.J./Red Bank
Catholic) got the Mount on the scoreboard when she scored
her first collegiate goal off a corner kick with 2:12 left in the
game. Karpinski led the Mount with eight shots in the game,
including three on goal.
Winship made six saves in 70:46 of playing time in her first
collegiate start for the Mount. Amanda Kitzmiller added a save in
19:14 of playing time in goal for the Mount.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 11, with a
7:00 p.m. game at Bucknell.
