Providence, R.I. (April 5, 2008)--The Mount St.
Mary's men's lacrosse team lost at Metro Atlantic Athletic
Conference Co-Leader, 10-5, on Saturday afternoon. Senior Joe
Derwent figured in every Mount (1-7, 1-2 MAAC) goal, posting a goal
and four assists in the loss.
Graduate student Mark Dillon posted a career day for the Friars
(4-5, 4-0 MAAC) on offense with four goals and two assists. The
Friars started off the game with
three-straight goals through the first 4:47 of the game. Dillon
got things started just 50-seconds into the game off a feed from
sophomore Jackson Fallon. Robert Lamontagne and Fallon each
recorded a goal at the 10:41 mark and the 10:13 mark,
respectively. Both goals were assisted by Dillon.
The Mount got on the scoreboard with 8:44 left in the first quarter
when Derwent scored an unassisted goal. Providence, however,
rattled off the next four goals to take control of the game. Colin
Tigh scored twice, Dillon and Fallon once each in the run. Geery
Grant broke the streak when he converted a Derwent pass with 19
seconds left in the quarter, but Dillon answered with a goal with
just four seconds left in the half for an 8-2 Providence lead.
Fallon and Dillon scored the only goals of the third quarter for a
10-2 Providence lead before the Mount scored the final three goals
of the contest. Freshman Brendan Harrison scored the first goal of
the Mount run followed by a pair of scores by freshman Jon
Rodrick. Derwent assisted on all three markers.
T.C. DiBartolo played the first half in goal for the Mount, making
two saves while Kyle Overs made seven saves in the second half for
the Mountaineers.
Providence held a 35-to-21 advantage in shots in the game and won
13-of-17 face-offs.
