Emmitsburg, Md. (October 19, 2008)--Saint Francis
(Pa.) scored two second-half goals to earn a 3-1 victory over Mount
St. Mary's in Northeast Conference women's soccer action at Waldron
Family Stadium on campus on Sunday afternoon. The Mount's
Emily
Menotti (Dover, Pa./Dover) scored for the
second-straight game to pace the Mount (2-13-1, 1-4-1 NEC)
offense.
The Red Flash (6-4-5, 3-1-1 NEC) broke on top early when Kate Bosy
tapped in an Alanna Vespa pass 6:27 into the game for a 1-0
advantage. The Mount responded when Ellie
Vawter (Laurel, Md./Pallotti) broke Emily
Menotti in on goal with a nice long pass. Menotti's initial
shot was denied by Saint Francis goalkeeper Jessica Boyer, however,
she grabbed her own rebound and found the back of the net for her
third goal of the season.
The Red Flash struck early in the second half to take the lead for
good. Brittni Grenninger took a pass from Katie Daugherty to tally
her second score of the year just 3:14 into the half for a 2-1
advantage. Vespa added an assist on the play for the Red Flash as
well. Rachael Seibert's team-leading seventh goal in the 67th
minute sealed the win for Saint Francis.
Menotti registered five of the Mount's eight shots in the game. In
goal, freshman Alicia
Miller (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) made seven saves for the Mount,
giving her 118 for the season, just six behind Anna
Lebo's single-season record of 124 set in 2006.
The Red Flash outshot the Mount, 21-to-8, in the contest and held a
4-to-0 advantage in corners.
The Mount returns to action on Saturday, October 25, with a 2:00
p.m. home game against Monmouth at Waldron Family Stadium on
campus. It will be the Mount's final home game of the year.
