Women's Soccer Loses at Central Connecticut State, 4-0

New Britain, Conn. (October 10, 2008)--Central Connecticut State defeated Mount St. Mary's, 4-0, in a Northeast Conference matchup on Friday afternoon. CCSU's Rachel Caneen tallied a hat trick to lead her team to the win. The Mount falls to 2-11-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the Northeast Conference with the loss.

The Blue Devils (5-4-4, 2-1-0 NEC) took control of the game early, scoring three times in the opening 7:15 of the contest. The first goal came when Leah Blaney floated a shot in from 30 yards out over Mount goalkeeper Alicia Miller (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) for a 1-0 advantage. Just 45 seconds later, Caneen struck for her first score of the game on a deflection off Miller. Caneen made it 3-0 when she beat Miller from just outside the penalty box.

Caneen rounded out the scoriing in the game when she converted a Blayney pass off a Mount turnover 7:21 into the second half for a four-goal advantage.

CCSU held a 27-to-10 margin in shots in the game. Miller made 10 saves in goal for the Mount while Caity Casey had a pair of saves in the win for the Blue Devils. Sadie Winship (York, Pa./Eastern York) paced the Mount offense with five shots.

The Mount finishes the two-game road trip at Quinnipiac with a 12:00 p.m. game on Sunday.
