The Mount St. Mary's men's lacrosse team defeated Wagner, 9-6,
on Saturday afternoon for its second straight win. Seniors Joe
Bello and Eric Seifert each had three goals to spark the Mount to
the win.
Wagner (0-15, 0-8 MAAC) jumped to a 3-0 lead after one quarter
of play behind goals from Anthony Camacho, Andrew Daly and Evan
Shull. Brian Poissant had assists on the final two goals,
including Shull's which came six seconds before the end of the
quarter.
Mount St. Mary's (4-9, 4-4 MAAC) got on the board 5:17 into the
second quarter on Bello's first goal of the game. Seifert
converted a Michael Sciulli pass at the 5:57 mark to cut the Wagner
lead to one, but Mike Hess took a pass from Shull and beat Mount
goalkeeper Joe Zolezzi 28 seconds later to push the margin back to
two.
The Mount answered by scoring the final two goals of the half.
Ben Mundorf scored his 18th of the season with 3:26 left in the
half to make it 4-3 before Dave Orban took a feed from Peter Kerwin
to beat Wagner goalkeeper Ian Gallagher to tie the game at 4-4 at
the half.
Seifert gave the Mount its first lead of the contest 1:47 into
the second half, but the Seahawks fought back on a Ryan Martin
tally to tie the game with 5:13 left in the third quarter. Bello
countered with his second goal of the game to send the Mount to the
final quarter with a 6-5 advantage.
Seifert and Bello then connected on back-to-back scores to give
the Mount an 8-5 lead. Wagner's Brian Poissant cut the deficit to
8-6 with 8:16 remaing, but the Mount defense held on from
there.
Senior Nick Jackson's first goal of the season with 22 seconds
left on a long pass from goalkeeper Zolezzi put an exclamation mark
on the win. It was Zolezzi's first career point.
Bello and Seifert each had three goals to pace the Mount while
Orban finished with a goal and an assist. Zolezzi made nine saves
to earn the victory in the cage. Six different Wagner players
scored in the game with Poissant leading the team with three points

half, making 12 of his 18 saves in the final 30 minutes.
