No. 16 Bucknell pulled away from Mount St. Mary's for a 14-2
victory at Waldron Family Stadium on campus on Saturday afternoon.
Tim Brandau had four goals and two assists to pace Bucknell (5-0)
to the victory while Joe Bello and Geery Grant each scored in the
loss for the Mount (0-2).
Bucknell jumped to an early 1-0 lead when Brian Gargan beat
Mount St. Mary's goalkeeper Joe Zolezzi 1:11 into the game. The
Bison added to its lead when Joe Mele converted a Brandau feed at
the 9:40 mark. The Mount cut into the deficit when Bello tallied
his third goal of the season on a pass from Mundorf on an extra-man
opportunity.
Bucknell scored all three goals in the second quarter to take a
5-1 lead at the half. Brandau scored the first two markers of the
quarter. Mele capped the half with a goal with 17 seconds left
after converting a Mount turnover to make the score 5-1.
The Bison took control in the second half, outscoring the Mount
9-1 over the final 30 minutes of the game. Steve Case scored his
first goal of the season just 11 seconds into the third to make the
score 6-1 before Brandau's third goal of the game gave the Bison a
7-1 cushion with 8:10 left in the quarter. Grant's tally with 5:15
left cut the Bucknell lead to 7-2, but Mele's third goal of the
game made the score 8-2 after three quarters.
Bucknell sealed the win with six unanswered goals in the fourth
quarter. Brandau, Nick Marks, Austin Winters twice, Tommy Moore
and Steven Cheng all scored in the final quarter for the Bison.
The Mount was outshot 43-23 in the game and Bucknell held a
32-24 advantage in ground balls. The Mount committed 28 turnovers
in the contest.
Mount goalkeeper Joe Zolezzi made 12 saves in 50:54 of action
while Chris Channing made one save in 9:06 for the Mount. Nick
Sciubba made 10 saves while allowing two goals in 50:54 in the win
for Bucknell.
Brandau paced Bucknell with four goals and two assists while
Winter finished with two goals and two assists in the win. Mele
added a hat trick as 12 different Bucknell players recorded a point
in the game.
Peter Kerwin and Ben Muindorf added assists for the Mount while
Kyle Daddio won 11-of-18 face-offs. Freshman Matt Croutier and
Kerwin each had five ground balls for the Mount.
The Mount returns to action on Tuesday, March 13, with a 7:00
p.m. game at No. 4 Virginia.
