Three First Half Goals Doom Mount Women's Soccer in 3-1 Loss at FDU

Teaneck, N.J. (October 14, 2007)--Three first half goals lifted Fairleigh Dickinson to a 3-1 win over Mount St. Mary's in women's soccer action on Sunday afternoon. Erin Canning (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) scored for the second straight game for the Mount (3-10, 1-3 NEC).

The Knights (4-9-0, 2-2 NEC) 14:48 into the game when Christine Niven converted a rebound for the early 1-0 lead. Fairleigh Dickinson then struck for two goals in a span of 1:16 late in the first half to grab a commanding 3-0 advantage. Michelle DeCourcey scored with 6:59 left in the half when her shot just under the cross bar gave FDU a 2-0 lead. 1:16 later, Lora Lehr finished an Amanda Wheeler cross to give the home team a three-goal advantage.

The Mount fought back when Canning finished a cross from Karyn Farrar (Mount Airy, Md./South Carroll) to cut the margin to 3-1 with 1:11 left in the first half. It was the second straight game Canning has scored for the Mount. Canning's goal was the final score of the contest as FDU held on for the 3-1 victory.

Fairleigh Dickinson held a 19-to-8 advantage in shots in the game, including a 12-to-4 margin in the second half. Mount goalkeeper Anna Lebo (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) made nine saves in the loss. Lebo made 21 saves over the Mount's two-game road trip this weekend. Rachel Derrico made three saves to earn the victory in goal for FDU.

The Mount returns to action on Friday, Oct. 19, with a 4:00 p.m. home game against Quinnipiac at Waldron Family Stadium on campus.
