EMMITSBURG, MD (September 3, 2026)- Mount St. Mary's men's water polo opens their 2026 campaign at the U.S. Naval Academy for the Navy Open with a slate of three games. After the 2025 season that yielded a record of 11-23, the Mountaineers will look to start their season with a good footing as they take on Navy, Austin, and Air Force during their weekend in Annapolis, MD.
MOUNT UPDATE
The Mountaineers finished their 2025 season with a sixth-place finish at the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference Championships, defeating Mercyhurst with a score of 14-8, then being defeated by Bucknell in overtime in the fifth-place game. Some key returners from last season are
Aaron Tarr, William Matthews and
Giannis Skliras who led the team in scoring with 83, 54 and 63 goals, respectively. Both Tarr and Skliras played in all 34 games last season as well, while Matthews played in 30. Tarr also recorded 84 assists, 54 steals and 43 turnovers, on the way to winning an All-American honorable mention award last season as well as being named to the MAWPC conference second team. Matthews last year as a freshman was named to the honorable mention team in the MAWPC and boasted 16 assists, 51 steals, and 28 turnovers. Skliras had a powerful impact as a freshman, causing 59 ejections as well as recording 34 assists, 24 steals and 47 turnovers. This season there is a roster of 22, having 8 returners and 14 new additions to the team.

The Men's Water Polo team will travel up to New Jersey next for the Princeton Invitational where they will compete in four games on September 11
th-13
th. On Friday and Saturday, they will only play one game each, while Sunday they will compete in two games.
