Mount St. Mary's Falls to Quinnipiac in Series Opener

Emmitsburg, Md. (April 24, 2026)--Mount St. Mary's lost the opening game of its three-game Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference series to visiting Quinnipiac, 6-3, in a contest delayed two hours and 26 minutes due to the weather.  Tristin Koerner provided the Mount's offense with a three-run homer.  The Mount falls to 16-27 overall and 11-11 in the MAAC with the loss.

The Bobcats (19-16, 14-9 MAAC) scored single runs in the first, third and fourth innings to take a 3-0 advantage.  In the first, Kennedy DeMott's two-out RBI double brought home Sofia Vega with the game's first run.  Riley Potter added a two-out RBI single in the third, and Noelle Reid connected for a two-out solo homer in the fourth to build a three-run lead.

The score was 3-0 with one out in the bottom of the fifth when lightning in the area forced the long delay.  Quinnipiac pitcher Shannon Kendall had held the Mount without a hit until that point in the contest.  When the game resumed, Kelsey Bandelow broke up the no-hit bid with a line drive off the glove of Vega at third.  The Bobcats added three insurance runs in the top of the sixth to build a 6-0 advantage.  DeMott had the big hit in the inning, a two-run homer to left.

The Mount rallied in the seventh when Avery Dinges greeted reliever Jasmine Kline with a walk to open the frame.  Dinges then stole second base, her 38th steal of the season, putting her one shy of the school mark of 39 set by Bridgette Gillano in 2022.  Zoe Pachoca then reached on an error by the shortstop, and Koerner followed with a long three-run homer over the left field fence to cut the deficit in half.  Kline was able to settle down after that to retire the final three batters.

Emmaleigh Zagrodnicheck pitched a complete game for the Mount, allowing six earned runs and nine hits in seven innings.  Lia Festa, Bandelow and Koerner each had one hti for the Mount in the game.

Due to the weather forecast tomorrow, the teams will conclude the three-game set with a doubleheader on Sunday, April 26, at 12:00 p.m.  It will be Senior Day for the Mount as Gina Del Giorno, Festa, Koerner and Payten De Weese will all be honored prior to the game.
