Box Score 2 Buffalo, N.Y. (April 11, 2026)—The bats were silent for Mount St. Mary's in a pair of losses at Canisius on Saturday at the Demske Sports Complex. Canisius took the opener, 3-1, before edging the Mount, 1-0, in game two. Mount St. Mary's falls to 13-22 overall and 9-6 in the MAAC.
GAME 1: Canisius 3, Mount St. Mary's 1
Canisius held off Mount St. Mary's in a 3-1 victory in the opening game of today's doubleheader. The Mount had the bases loaded with no outs in the top of the seventh, but could not come up with the game-tying hit.
The Golden Griffins (10-20, 6-10 MAAC) scored twice in the bottom of the first to take the early lead. Bella Martin singled with one out with Ella Johel following with a triple to score Martin with the first run. Bailey Alatorre then hit a sacrifice fly for the 2-0 advantage.
Canisius starter Mia Preuhs held the Mount hitless over the first four innings before the Mountaineers broke through for a run in the fifth.
Sharon Manni led off with a single, and moved to second when
Lia Festa reached on a fielder's choice. A sacrifice bunt moved the runners up, and Manni came home to score on a
Taylor Williams sacrifice fly to make it 2-1. Canisius answered in the bottom of the fifth with a run on a Martin RBI single.
The Mount threatened in the top of the seventh, loading the bases with no outs on a
Tristin Koerner walk, a Manni base hit, and a Festa walk. That prompted a pitching change from Preuhs to Liv Harrington, who got out of the jam with a pair of popouts and a lineout to center field.
Mannie went 2-for-3 at the plate while Del Giorno was 1-for-2 with a walk and a stolen base.
Sophia Schmehl tossed a complete game for the Mount, allowing seven hits and three runs while striking out five.
GAME 2: Canisius 1, Mount St. Mary's 0
Mikaila Obenrader scattered six hits allowed in a 1-0 shutout victory for Canisius in game two.
Avery Dinges went 3-for-3 with a stolen base for the Mount in the loss.
Canisius scored the lone run in the game in the bottom of the fifth when Sofia Escoto singled and scored on a Avyree Sherman double to left field.
Freshman
Emmaleigh Zagrodnicheck was solid in the circle for the Mount, striking out six while allowing four hits in the complete-game effort.
