CLAREMONT, Calif. (March 6, 2026) – Mount St. Mary's women's water polo split their two games during the first day of the Claremont Convergence Tournament in California today, defeating Biola 15-14 while falling to Call State Fullerton by a score of 5-4.
After a 3-3 tie played out in the first quart of the game against Biola, the Mountaineers broke out in the second quarter, with the Mount posting five goals in the second quarter while only allowing three. Both teams scored five goals in the third quarter while Biola outscored Mount St. Mary's 3-2 in the fourth, holding out for the win in the end, much in thanks to the scoring during the fourth quarter.
Lotte Schreurs and
Anna Kegel both scored four goals each while Schreurs recorded two assists and three completed steals, drawing four exclusions in the process.
Leilani Horan notched a hat trick during the first game of the day while
Lucia Redaelli,
Emily Hatcher,
Kiele Davidson, and
Claire Gebhardt all scored one goal each.
Olivia Fernie made six saves for the Mount in the cage against Biola.
The Mountaineers held a narrow 2-1 lead through halftime against Fullerton, tying the first quarter at 1-1 while edging the Titans 1-0 during the second quarter. Fullerton clawed their way back in the third, outscoring the Mount 2-1 while getting the winning goal in the fourth quarter to round out the game.
Schreurs led the Mount scoring efforts once more, scoring two against the Titans while Kegel and Hatcher all recorded one goal each.
Natalie Marquiss recorded four completed steals against Fullerton while Davidson notched three steals against the Titans. Fernie once more recorded six saves in goal for the Mount during game two of the weekend.
