MOUNT UPDATE:  Mount St. Mary's enters the weekend with a 1-8 record after a tough weekend at the Coach Cooke Memorial Tournament hosted by Winthrop.  Kelsie Bandelow leads the Mount with a .391 average and seven runs scored while Avery Dinges is hitting .313 with a team-high five stolen bases.  Emmaleigh Zagrodnicheck has been the top pitcher in the early going, posting a 1-1 record and a 2.27 ERA in 12.1 innings of work.

ABOUT THE COMPETITION:
Longwood (2-12):  The Lancers enter the weekend with a 2-12 record after a 7-1 loss to No. 18/21 Virginia on Tuesday.  Sarah Terrell leads the team with a .290 average while Brooke Bennett is hitting .265 with four home runs and 12 RBI.  In the circle, Maggie Chapin is the top starter with a 1-6 record and a 3.77 ERA.  She has struck out 47 batters in 48.1 innings of work.

Youngstown State  (3-6):  The Penguins enter the tournament with a 3-6 record this season after going 1-3 at the USC Upstate Classic last weekend.  Youngstown State has five players hitting over .350 this year, led by Lydia Wilkerson (15-for-31, .484) and Kennedy Dean (14-for-29, .483, 2 HR, 12 RBI).  Kelsey Ogin leads the pitching staff with a 2-0 record and a 4.14 ERA in six appearances.

Hampton (4-4):  The Pirates hosted the Battle of the Bay last weekend, winning two of three games to move to 4-4 on the season.  Sydney Evans (.438, 6R, 7 RBI) and Carmynn Bonner (.417, 2 HR, 11 RBI) lead the offense while Ava Lester (2-0, 1.00 ERA, 14 K, 14 IP) leads the pitching staff.

Penn:  Penn went 3-2 at the Lowcountry Classic in Charleston, S.C. to open the 2026 season.  The Quakers picked up wins over UMass, Sacred Heart and Charleston Southern.  Delaney Smith is off to a hot start, going 8-for-13 (.615) over the first five games while Gigi Ganje is 7-for-17 (.412) with four home runs and seven RBI.  Ainsley Pemberton has started three times in the circle, going 1-0 with a 3.71 ERA in 11.1 innings pitched. 

THE ALL-TIME SERIES:
vs. Longwood:  The Mount is playing Longwood for the first time.

vs. Youngstown State:  Mount St. Mary's is 2-1 all-time against Youngstown State, including a 5-4 win over the Penguins in a game played at Winthrop University.  The Mount defeated YSU, 8-1, on February 26, 2017 with the Penguins winning the first all-time meeting, 4-2, on March 14, 2014.

vs. Hampton: Mount St. Mary's is 5-8 all-time against the Pirates with the teams splitting a doubleheader last year at Hampton.  The Mount won the opener, 7-1, before falling in the second game, 11-7.  The Mount has won four of the past six matchups dating back to 2010.

vs. Penn:  The Mount is playing Penn for the first time.

UP NEXT:  Mount St. Mary's heads home to open Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play with a three-game series against Merrimack at Our Lady of the Meadows Field on campus.  The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, March 7, at noon, and follow with a single game at noon on Sunday, March 8.
