Emmitsburg, Md. (February 14, 2026)--Mount St. Mary's dropped a pair of games today on the final day of the Elon Phoenix Invitational. The Mount opened the day with a 5-0 setback to Delaware State before falling to Dayton, 3-1, to close out the tournament.
Delaware State 5, Mount St. Mary's 0
In the opening gam eof the day for the Mount, Delaware State scored twice in the top of hte second and three times in the fifth to secure a 5-0 win over the Mountaineers.
Sophia Schmehl tossed a complete game for the Mount while
Gina Del Giorno and
Courtney Chew each had a hit in the loss.
The Mount threatened to score in the first when
Avery Dinges reached on an error and then scored second and third base.
Tyra Christian drew a walk to put runners on the corners, but a pop out ended the inning. Delaware State answered with two runs in the second when Savannah Siffert had an RBI double and the second run scored on a bunt hit and a Mount error for the first two runs of the game for Delaware State.
The Hornets scored three times in the top of the fourth, and cruised to the win from there.
Schmehl allowed three earned runs while striking out three in the complete-game effort.
Dayton 3, Mount St. Mary's 1
Mount St. Mary's fell to Dayton, 3-1, in the second game of the day.
It was the Mountaineers (1-4) who struck first in the game when Bandelow tripled with two outs, and then scampered home on a wild pitch, for a 1-0 lead after the top of the first inning. The Flyers tied the score with a single run in the bottom of the second to tie the score. Deirdre Flaherty provided the big hit of the game, a two-run homer in the fourth inning that put Dayton up, 3-1.
Dayton's Izzy Kemp closed out the game, holding the Mount to one base runner while striking out seven, over the final three innings of the game. Kemp finished the day with 10 strikeouts in four innings of work.
Sophia Vlahos provided the Mount with a strong outing in the circle, allowing three runs in a complete-game effort.
Maya Alvarez provided the Mount's other hit in the game.
UP NEXT: The Mount is back in action next weekend at the Coach Cooke Memorial hosted by Winthrop. The Mount opens the tournament with games against George Washington and Winthrop on Saturday, February 21.
