Mount Softball Downed by George Washington and Winthrop on Sunday

Rock Hill, S.C. (February 22, 2026)—Mount St. Mary's closed out the Coach Cooke Memorial Tournament with losses to George Washington and Winthrop on Sunday.  The Mount saw George Washington rally for a 6-5 win in the opening game before a 10-2 setback to host Winthrop.
 
GEORGE WASHINGTON 6, MOUNT ST. MARY'S 5

George Washington scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to rally for a 6-5 win over the Mount in the first game of the day.  Avery Dinges went 3-for-4 at the plate while Emma Tawney and Kelsie Bandelow each had two hits in the loss.

The Mountaineers jumped out the early lead with a run in the top of the first inning.  Sharon Manni doubled, and came home on an Avery Dinges base hit.  After the Revolutionaries evened the score in the bottom of the second, the Mount took control with four runs in the third.  Kelsie Bandelow started the rally with a two-out base hit.  Dinges singled and Zoe Pachoca walked to load the bases.  Maya Alvarez drew a walk to plate Bandelow with the go-ahead run.  Tyra Christian followed with the big hit, a bases clearing double for a 5-1 advantage.  

George Washington got a run back in the bottom of the frame on a Paige Hayward RBI double and one more in the sixth on an Emma Fales RBI single.  Leading 5-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh, the Mount saw the Revolutionaries scored three times to secure the win.  Two singles and a walk loaded the bases with two outs, and a walk to the next batter forced home a run to make it 5-4.  Emi Todoroki then singled to bring home two runs for the win.

WINTHROP 10, MOUNT ST. MARY'S 2

Mount St. Mary's scored twice in the top of the first against Winthrop in the second game of the day, but was the Eagles scored the next 10 runs for a 10-2 victory.  

In the first, two errors led to the Mount's first run of the game, while Tawney drew a bases loaded free pass to bring home the second run for a 2-0 advantage. Peyton Bryden hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the frame for Winthrop to even the score, and the Eagles scored five runs in the second to take control of the game.

Gina Del Giorno and Tyra Christian each had a hit for the Mount in the loss.
