ANN ARBOR, Mich. (February 15, 2026) – Mount St. Mary's women's water polo split their final two games at the Michigan Invite on Sunday, falling to Michigan 17-5 but defeating McKendree 11-8. With the split, the Mountaineers move to 2-8 on the season, going an even 2-2 at the Invite.
The day for the Mountaineers started against McKendree, with the Mount jumping out to a early 4-1 lead over the Bearcats after the first quarter. Goals from
Lotte Schreurs,
Anna Kegel,
Leilani Horan, and
Taylor Wilson proved to be the deciding factor in the quarter win. Horan and Wilson scored again during the second quarter followed by a goal from
Emily Hatcher, sending the Mountaineers into halftime with a commanding 7-2 lead.
Mount St. Mary's continued their offensive push in the third quarter as Schreurs and
Lucia Redaelli matched McKendree's two goals in the quarter, heading into the final period up 9-4. McKendree found some scoring form in the final quarter, scoring four against the Mountaineer defensive wall. But goals from
Breanna Wood and
Claire Gebhardt cancelled out any serious push for a comeback in the end.
Schreurs, Horan, and Wilson all recorded two goals for the Mount while Redaelli, Hatcher, Kegel, Gebhardt, and Wood recorded solo scores.
Natalie Marquiss recorded three steals against opponents while Hatcher and
Kiele Davidson drew two exclusions each.
Olivia Fernie recorded six saves in goal against the Bearcats.
Michigan held the Mountaineers scoreless through the first quarter of play while blasting four shots past the Mount defense for a early 4-0 lead. Schreurs and Kali Viers found the net in the second half, but a persistent Michigan offense took the game into halftime up 8-2. Kegel found the net in the third and forth quarters, rounding out the game for the Mountaineers. Fernie completed five saves in goal against the Wolverines.

The Mountaineers receive a well needed break next weekend before departing for California to take part in the Claremont Convergence Tournament, playing Whittier, Cal State Fullerton, and Chapman in the Golden State.
