EMMITSBURG, Md. (January 16, 2026) – Mount St. Mary's women's basketball returns to the court on Saturday for a matinee game against Canisius in Emmitsburg at 1:00 p.m. The Mountaineers return from a road trip to NYC, yielding a 1-1 stretch which saw the Mount defeat Saint Peter's 55-51 but fall to Manhattan by a score of 68-59 on Wednesday in Riverdale.
MOUNT UPDATE
Against Manhattan on Wednesday,
Amber Bullard set a career high in points for the Mountaineers with 16, going 7-for-15 from the floor. The bench accounted for 19 points with 10 coming from
Alana Powell. The Mount shot 33.3 percent (5-for-15) from the floor and trailed 15-12 after the first quarter.
Jaedyn Jamison had the most points with four. Manhattan scored 12 of their 15 from the paint.
Going 5-for-6 at the line kept the Mountaineers within striking distance during the third quarter. However, Manhattan built a lead as 10 before holding a 43-37 advantage entering the fourth. A 6-0 run by the Mount pushed the game into its third tie score early in the final frame. Bullard hit the game tying layup. Another layup by
Giana Hoddinott switched the lead for the Mount at 47-45. Manhattan got a couple buckets to take the lead back 51-48 at the 5:58 mark to force a Mountaineers timeout. The Mount was unable to overcome this deficit as the Jaspers hit clutch shots to earn the victory.
Mount St. Mary's shot under 50 percent from the charity stripe, their lowest total of the year. Their previous low was 52.4 percent in a defeat to UMES in November. Powell's 10 points came in a losing effort for the 11th time in her career between the Mount and Omaha. Her lone victory came in the win over Lehigh on December 7. The Mountaineers took the second highest number of shot attempts in a game this season with 72. Only the Lehigh game (73) had more shot attempts.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN GRIFFINS
Canisius snapped a six-game losing streak on Wednesday with a 57-41 win over Niagara in upstate New York. The Golden Griffins' lengthy losing streak began on December 19 in Buffalo, with the home team falling to the Peacocks 61-49 after 40 minutes.
Four Golden Griffins logged 10+ points on Wednesday against Niagara, with Mary Copple and Irene Rey Pineda logging 11 points each. Shariah Gailes recorded a 10 point day while grabbing a season-best 16 rebounds in her 30 minutes on court. Corniya Clay went 4-9 from the field in Lewistown, knocking down a three while grabbing three boards on defense.
